Savannah is Number 8 on List of Best Cities in the World
One of the world's favorite travels magazines, Travel + Leisure, compiles an annual list of "best" cities in the world as calculated from a reader survey. This year, Savannah is ranked number 8 on that list. Wow! To view the whole list, and learn more, visit www.travelandleisure.com/

Tybee parking rates increase!
In June, the Tybee City Council unanimously approved increasing the parking rates at the beachfront parking lots on the north and south ends. The parking rate will jump from $1.50 to $2 per hour.
The council also approved increasing the cost of yearly parking decals from $100 to $150 and will provide a discounted senior rate of $125 for those who are 62 years old and older.

Savannah City Council is Considering a New Stadium
Savannah's Mayor and Council are considering moving forward on building a new stadium about 2 miles east of City Hall along the Savannah river. It will take some time, though, before any final decisions are made.

Truman Parkway is Nearing Completion
There's finally light at the end of the parkway! Built incrementally over a span of about 20 years, the final "Phase 5" of the Truman Parkway is expected to be finished in about a year. Phase 5 invloves 1) an elevated roadway and bridge across the Wilshire Canal, the Vernon River and the adjacent marsh; 2) an overpass across White Bluff Road; and 3) a multi-lane merge and entrance ramp at Abercorn Street just north of Holland Drive. The cost for this final phase alone was more than $128 million. Hundreds of trees were sacrificed, including scores of ancient oaks, to make way for our beloved automobiles. They even had to demolish a beautiful residence which was "in the way." But soon we will be able to zoom upward from Abercorn and "fly" up onto a new scenic route to downtown. And there's a light at the end of Parkway downtown too: A traffic light. Hopefully, thousands of cars will not become backed-up at the light at President Street. Just in case, it might be best to get off the Parkway at DeRenne. No, that road is always backed-up. Maybe get off at Victory Drive. Nope, that's congested too. Might be best to just stay on Abercorn Street for the drive downtown!
